Drug Effects

Three of the drug effects in any type of addiction that must be fully resolved for any chance of lasting recovery are cravings, guilt, and depression. Cravings can be mental or physical and are strong, uncontrollable urges to use drugs or alcohol despite the consequences. Depression is the source of constant and significant amounts of discomfort that prompts continued drug use in an attempt to alleviate the depression. Guilt is the feelings resulting from dishonest deeds and harm caused to the people closest to and most important to the addict. With unresolved feelings of guilt the addict is very prone and quite likely to continue using drugs or relapse to drug use in a misguided attempt to escape the feeling of guilt. In what seems an endless cycles this goes on and on with the addiction and the cravings, guilt, and depression going in a downward spiral towards death or jail.

Narconon Arrowhead is a drug rehab program in the fullest sense of the term. Rehabilitate means to restore to a former condition or state, while program refers to a series of steps to bring about an intended result. At Narconon Arrowhead we use a multi-phase approach to first end drug abuse and addiction while restoring mental and physical health and vigor with full detoxification of the body. We then go on to assist the individual in handling issues surrounding cravings, guilt and depression that led up to and then continued the abuse and addiction. Once past problems and issues have been resolved to the student’s satisfaction he is ready to move into learning tools and abilities to enable him to confront the present and to create the future he wants for himself, family, career, etc. While there are probably as many issues to confront as there are addicts and each has his own particular scene, the above is the rough outline for achieving a drug free productive life for our students, while addressing each individuals particular needs.

An inpatient rehabilitation treatment center is generally the way to go for effective treatment of severe drug abuse or any form of addiction. This is not to say the outpatient does not have a use, as it does in cases of light abuse where the individual still maintains control of life and situations to an extent. In the main however, addiction by its very nature implies an inability to control use and by extension inability to handle life situations that led up to and are contributing factors in continuing addiction. With its use of close supervision and removal from dangerous environments the inpatient rehabilitation treatment center provides superior chances of achieving a drug free lifestyle.

Drug rehab facilities are not all created equal and many different types exist. There are in-patient and out-patient facilities, long term and short term, drug therapy and drug free, traditional and non traditional, just to name a few of the differences. Narconon Arrowhead is a long term in that rather than having a set time span, we operate off of results and this varies by individual. Average time is 90-120 days. We are also drug free in that we firmly believe that treating drug addiction with other ‘maintenance’ type drugs is counter productive to producing a truly drug free productive life. We are also non-traditional and do not treat addiction as a disease one has for life. Our 76% success rate speaks for itself.

‘Meth’ is short for methamphetamine which is a whit crystalline drug that can be taken by snorting, injecting, smoking, and at times orally. It is extremely addictive and can create uncontrollable cravings even after only one use. Despite the raiding and closing of the majority of clandestine meth labs in this country, there are a few that survive and the void has definitely been filled by foreign drug cartels operating in the U.S. making meth readily available and easily affordable. For this reason meth addiction continues to climb at epidemic levels and has spread to all corners of the country. One is literally taking their lives in the hands right from the very first use.
